Range Loss Due To Battery Degradation

Blog › Range Loss Due To Battery Degradation

Lithium batteries are not perfect unfortunately and generally lose capacity with time. Even if your electric vehicle has had little use, this does not prevent battery degradation. Due to chemical make up lithium batteries lose capacity at lower outdoor temperatures which can make for a bad morning. For example, you get home after a long drive with a low battery and do not plug it in to recharge, as the battery cools down in a cold winter’s night temperature, the voltage drops. When this happens, you risk a major battery failure. This is one of the reasons why most manufacturers suggest always having your car plugged in when parked keeping your battery around the 20% – 80% range at all times.
